Silver Electroplating
Silver electroplating is used in industrial applications, primarily for electrical connectors, because it has the highest electrical conductivity compared to other metals. It can be applied in both rack and barrel plating methods, specifying matte, semi-bright or bright finish, with or without a chromate post treatment to improve tarnish resistance. Plating specifications also designate the base coating to be applied under the plating, such as copper.
Silver offers good corrosion resistance depending on the base metal. It can tarnish easily, but has the ability to be sealed with an anti-tarnish to slow the process. Solderability is excellent, but will decrease with age. Silver has excellent lubricity and smear characteristics for anti-galling uses.
